September 17, 2012: The first field trip of the 2012-2013 school year will take place on Monday, October 15th. We will visit the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum. This is a wonderful field trip! We will depart Pleasant View at 9:00 A.M. and return around 2:45 P.M. It is amazing how so many of our students have never visited West Branch. Even though I have been there many times, I still look forward to each visit. It is likely that all fifth grade classes will travel to West Branch on the same date. I will send home the permission slips a week or two prior to the trip date.

Besides West Branch, we will travel on a science field trip to the Wapsi Environmental Center. This trip is coordinated by Mr. Ericksen. It involves snow shoeing, cross country skiing, and talks on birds of prey and reptiles. Students get an opportunity to handle the reptiles. It is a fun experience for the students. This trip usually takes place during January. Students are encouraged to wear several layers of warm clothing.

Students will need to pack a sack lunch for both of these trips. If packing a lunch causes a hardship in any way, I would be happy to pack a lunch for your child. I did this during previous years for a couple of my students who always have hot lunch. I am happy to do it. Just have your child let me know.
